Meet Skunk!

Say hello to Skunk, this week’s adoptable running dog, who gets his name from his colors not his scent. This young guys is super friendly with dogs and humans alike, and the Monster Milers think — with a little attention — he’d make for a great trail buddy.

We are also financially sponsoring Skunk at Street Tails Animal Rescue. What does that mean? We step in to help cover the costs of care so Street Tails can focus on finding him a home!

Name: Skunk

Age: 1 year

Breed: Labrador/Pit bull mix

Size: 50 pounds (but currently a bit underweight)

Background: Skunk came to Street Tails through the Women’s Humane Society, where he was surrender by his owner who could not properly care for him.

Running style: Skunk appears to have limited leash experience and also loves zig-zagging while tracking scents around the neighborhood (very labrador-like!). This, combined with the crazy March weather, has kept him from doing a lot of running with the Monster Milers. However, he has a good amount of energy and a body that looks pretty speedy, so they’re willing to bet that, with some training and a few more pounds on his frame, he’d be a great middle-distance running buddy.

Why Skunk could be the right dog for you: The weather has taken a turn for the worst but Skunk has been warming everyone up with his amazing hugs! His hugs are kind, gentle and not the jumping type that you would expect from most young dogs. We think Skunk would make the ultimate family dog, as he seems to love all people and animals. He is also housebroken, appears to know basic commands and takes treats very gently. While most dogs get a little crazy and anxious in their kennels, Skunk is quiet and welcomes volunteers to come hang out without being too pushy. If you adopt Skunk you will get a young, active dog, without having to do the training required when adopting a puppy!

If you’re interested in adopting Skunk, you can find out more about him from Street Tails Animal Rescue in Northern Liberties. You can fill out an adoption application here, or contact them by phone (267-761-9434) or email.
