Monster Miler Tips for Warm Weather Running!
These tips are brought to you by Tonka, our running buddy from PAWS (Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society)! This is not an exclusive list, but these three tips should help you endure the heat, and in the very least - make you smile!
1. Wear appropriate gear & dress for the weather. A pair of shades should keep down the glare, and may help to keep the sweat out of your eyes. It's not a fashion show, but it if were, Tonka would win so you might as well not even bother - just make sure your comfortable and well prepared.
2. Find a shady spot when you need to take a break. A run shouldn't be a constant mental and physical battle. Remember that you SHOULD be having FUN, so be kind to yourself and provide the necessary breaks, and enjoy the meditative moments those breaks provide. Remember that to Tonka a run is temporary freedom, a respite from shelter life. Don't forget that it could also be YOUR bit of freedom, a break from the hustle and bustle of your day. Savor it.
3. When you have completed your run, cool down. Drink your fluids, rest those legs, and maybe let a fan blast you in the face.
If you enjoyed these tips, Tonka also wants to remind you that you can learn more from and run with dogs just like him if you join our Shelter Dog Running Program! So come run with us!
